During my time spent in SynBioM, I had the opportunity to explore a wide range of skills beyond what was offered in my coursework. From the initial fundraising and design phases to the lab sessions and final presentation, I gained confidence in collaborating with my fellow students and putting our ideas to the test. The guidance we received along the way from PhD advisors, professors, and scientists in industry also broadened my view of how we can bring cutting-edge research closer to solving the global issues that matter. I particularly enjoyed showcasing our progress in Canberra and chatting with other Australian university teams to hear their own approaches. I would recommend SynBioM to anyone across science, engineering, or IT seeking this interdisciplinary experience.

Being a member of SynBioM has truly been an incredible experience. As someone with a background in IT, delving into the world of science has been a tremendous opportunity for growth and learning. The friendships formed and the diverse set of skills acquired as part of this team have the potential to open numerous doors for your future. I wholeheartedly recommend anyone, particularly those with IT degrees. At the end of the day, this competition thrives on interdisciplinary collaboration, and your unique knowledge and skills will undoubtedly make a positive impact on the team! Looking forward to what the future teams will achieve.

I highly recommend any aspiring Scientist (Biomedical, Chem, Biol, Data or otherwise) to be a part of the SynBioM team. The journey from start to finish was unlike anything else I have done at university. Conducting cutting-edge research, forwarding the science of Synthetic Biology. Making new like-minded friends whilst gaining invaluable skills. Travelling and presenting our research in front of our peers and academics. Achieving and having an immense sense of accomplishment for our work throughout the year, hopefully to be continued and made even better by future teams!

These are just a few of the reasons why I am so grateful to have been a part of this team, and why I am looking forward to what the next SynBioM teams can create.

Participating in the Australasian SynBio Challenge was an amazing opportunity! You will learn how to use a combination of science and creativity to solve real-world problems. Additionally, you will make crucial connections with leaders at the forefront of their respective fields from synthetic biology to engineering.  Most importantly, you will make life-long friendships as you work, struggle, and ultimately succeed with a group of like-minded students. I highly recommend this opportunity as it will present you a unique chance to unite science and engineering. And this is something you will rarely get to experience as a student.
